Guide for KOGIC internship [English version] Update : 2019-07-18

Internship is not just learning about a particular field.

It is an actual work and should be taken seriously.

In addition, sufficient knowledge is necessary for the intership.

If you do not have enough knowledge, you should work really hard all day doing a lot of studying and practical work in the lab.

The applicant should ask himself/herself:

1. Do things such as bioinformatics, biology experiments, genomics really interest you and have priority in your life?

2. Do you really have a passion for this research so you can apply the internship to KOGIC?

( If not, do you want the internship because you have an alterior motivation such as military service exemption and certificate?

3. Do you really know how to work in a team and is it truly good and fun to do the teamwork in a science/ technology/ organization, sharing your vision with others?

4. Do you make decisions and judgement logically or out of emotional whims?

5. Can you identify/recognize and solve problems? (Do you have the skills in solving problems?)

* If you want to learn how to do bioinformatics, genomics, biology experiment, and science in KOGIC,

you should be ready to learn through related courses such as bioinformatics, genomics, and experiments.

In addition, you can learn by yourself because there are already a lot of materials on the internet.

(It is the most important quality; identifing problems and learn how to solve them by researching on them.

What you need to prepare before your internship

1. Before starting the internship, you should deeply consider the field of research that you are interested in and want to study.

Present it to colleagues (Presentation: within 15 minutes)

2. Read and understand Orientation Book for New Researcher-새동료가이드.

Guide during internship

1. Do your best to come to the lab on time. (Spend as much time as possible to communicate with other colleagues)

1.1. Checking in and leaving the lab is up to you. However, you must be accountable and other people should be able to know where you are.

2. Be active in trying to understand and do your work with an independent and self-motivation.

3. Have the ability to recognize the problems first.

4. When you are aware of the problem, think freely about all possible ways to solve it and find solutions.

5. Communicate (asking, questioning) as much as possible and solve the problems with teamwork.

6. Always report on your work (to explain and share your work. At least once a weak for lab meeting time)

7. When the internship is done, systemize your outputs for other people to take over all things you did to continue the project.

(At the end of the internship period, present your work during the internship period)

8. Share your research notes and status using wiki page, PPT, slack etc.

9. Strive to solve problems seriously and participate actively during presentations and meetings.

9.1. The presentation should focus on achieving the goal of the work for the project and others.

It is not to show of, get scores, or boast your ability.
